Protection for South African University Students

At Studii, we understand the financial pressures that university students in South Africa face. From tuition fees to accommodation and study materials, the costs of higher education can be overwhelming. That’s why we’ve developed a unique financial product specifically designed to provide students with peace of mind during their academic journey.

Our Mission

Studii’s mission is simple: to help South African university students succeed by offering financial protection for their studies. We believe that every student should have the opportunity to succeed, regardless of the financial challenges they face. That’s why we’ve created a product that offers students a safety net when it comes to their academic performance.

Our mission is to keep students enrolled and to increase the number of yearly university graduates. By doing this, we will have less student debt in the country and a larger, more schooled workforce an entrepreneurial base - leading to a ripple effect of economic growth and prosperity in South Africa.

How It Works

Studii provides financial support to university students through our module protection program:

We’re here to back students every step of the way. If you fail a module you’ve protected with us, we’ll refund a portion—or even the full cost—of that module.

How much we refund depends on how hard you’ve worked throughout the semester. We calculate this using our Payout Scale. This is designed to keep you motivated to attend classes and give it your best shot (yes, even for those Monday morning lectures!).

We use your Participation Mark (often called your semester mark / progress mark) to calculate how much we pay out when you fail your exams. Your Participation Mark is your grade average for the module before you’ve written the final exams.

Here’s the process: you pick the modules you want to protect and subscribe - then you pay a monthly subscription amount until you’ve written your exams (after the semester is over, we stop charging your account). If things don’t go as planned and you fail a protected module, we’ll step in to cover the costs, helping you stay enrolled and on track to graduate, all without piling on more student debt. We’re here to help you keep going.

Important: This is not an insurance product. We have been collaborating with the Financial Sector Conduct Authority and the Prudential Authority. We are a registered financial service provider - FSP 53052.

Our Vision for the Future

Studii is the first product of its kind in the world, specifically designed to support students in South Africa. As we continue to grow, our vision is to expand this offering to even more students, providing them with the financial protection they need to succeed. We also plan on introducing additional financial products like student loans and insurance for student laptops in the near future. We aim to be a part of the solution to the growing issue of student debt and financial stress within the South African tertiary education system.
